Be Gone Gray/Grey Skies!

It is a gray grey morning here in Arlington. It’s all drizzly and the weather is stuck between wanting to rain and wanting to pour. It’s all good though, because it was the perfect excuse to wear my big warm ugly coat. Booya, weather!

On another note, I’m feeling an intense amount of pressure to bake/cook/be in the kitchen! It’s pretty much impossible to focus the week of Thanksgiving when flour, butter, sugar, and all things good are calling my name. ** concentration please come back to me for 1.5 more days**

Today is a pretty special day though, because it is the BF’s bday (Happy Birthday, Babe!!) ! I looove celebrating birthdays. Last night I baked the “birthday cake” which was actually this: (if you’ve never been to this website, please go and prepare to drool… )

… I didn’t get to eat any of the brownies last night due to it not being the birthday boys big day, but tonight, the eating will ensue! I will be sure to let you know how delicious they taste ;)

I’m also making dinner, which is Hello, DOCTOR! So this is really just beginning the fatty week aka Thanksgiving!

Workout: At 5:30, as my handsome BF was heading out the door, he flicked on the bedroom light and uttered the words “time to workout”… Remember when I talked about getting up early to workout, well it was tested today, and I passsed! I hopped out of bed, turned on the coffee, laid back down for 10 minutes (power nap), got back up, and ate half a power bar + coffee and then got my workout clothes on! I went down to the gym and did my weight/strength training which was on my calendar. I was so glad to get it done.  BTW- the shoes I wear are below, Nike Free Runs, I love them. If you’re considering new workout shoes, check them out!

Candy Bar Cake

Wanna make a delicious cake?? Then try this recipe!

For my sister’s birthday celebration I was the official cake baker (per usual in my household).

The highlight of the meal was the cake. I combined her love of candy with a delicious and moist cake,using a recipe found off of and titled: Chocolate Candy Bar Cake. I tweaked the recipe a small amount, using Butterfinger, resulting in a final product that was amazing. Hope you enjoy!


  • Cake
    • 1 (18.25 oz) package of Devil’s Food cake mix
    • 1 1/2 cups of milk
    • 3 eggs
    • 3/4 cup of vegetable oil
    • 1 (3.5 oz) package of instant vanilla pudding mix
  • Frosting
    • 1 (8 oz) package of cream cheese
    • 1/2 cup white sugar
    • 1 cup confectioners sugar
    • 1 (12 oz) container frozen lite whipped topping, thawed
    • 1 cup of chopped pecans (optional)
    • 4 (1.5 oz) bars milk chocolate candy, coarsely chopped * I used butterfingers instead*

Mix all the cake ingredients together. Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 8-inch pans to be baked at 325 degrees for 20-25 minutes. After baking, let cool for at least 10-15 minutes.

While the cakes are cooling, gather the frosting ingredients, excluding the candy bars. Mix together the cream cheese, the white sugar, and the confectioners sugar and beat. Once the mixture is creamy, add the whipped topping and continue to beat the mixture. Put the candy bars in a large plastic bag and and smash. Take 3/4 of the smashed candy and fold into the frosting mixture.

Take the first of the 3 cakes and put on the bottom of the plate you are using. Frost the top of the first layer and place another cake layer on top. Do the same. Lastly, put the last cake layer on, and frost the top and the sides of the cake. Take the remaining candy pieces and put on top of the frosted cake. Eat and enjoy!
