A great weekend and a meal plan.

Welp, the weekend is now behind us, and ours was really productive! I’m glad we got some house stuff done with the start of the new year.

FRIDAY

Homemade Pizza | Tidbits for Today

We had work, then came home to make homemade pizza, watch football (him) and blog (her). I love cooking/baking, and making pizza on Fridays has become a fun tradition in our house. The dough I made this time was awesome, and instead of using my mixer I did it in a bowl. I actually really liked making it in the bowl, and felt like the dough had a great consistency. While the husband watched the cotton bowl, I drank some wine, blogged, and slept! It’s really hard to stay awake past 11pm most nights.

SATURDAY

We did stuff around the house after sleeping in until 930am! I had to drop off stuff at UPS and pick up a few groceries at Harris Teeter. Later in the day, we had a baby shower, which I used this awesome wrapping paper for! I found this at Marshall’s and I love it.

After the shower, we had a crazy night…. I kid, I worked on our 2nd bedroom. I spent about 5 hours total this weekend going through our 2nd bedroom that was full of old paperwork, bins of who knows what, and just stuff that needed to be purged, which I completed Saturday evening. I started a new box for goodwill, organized our paperwork into filing bins, and the room looks 1 million times better in my opinion.

While finishing the 2nd bedroom, I watched the documentary knife over forks. It was interesting… I find food theories hard though because you can find research that backs up both those who say you should eat meat and those who say you shouldn’t… what is the right way? No idea, but I think you should eat what makes you feel best.

SUNDAY

I also put away our Christmas decorations, and while doing that, reorganized our closet by getting rid of shoes boxes I had kept, so now my shoes are just on shelves vs. in the boxes. Our fridge also stopped producing water on Tuesday, and yesterday we had a technician come look at it. He informed us that a pipe was frozen underneath the fridge, so we could either take everything out of the fridge, turn it off, and let it thaw (free) or have them do something to fix it ($200). We opted for the free route, which took about 10 hours total, and the water is now dispensing again! The bonus, we got to do a deep fridge cleaning! A nice way to start off the year :)

The rest of Sunday was split an order of hunan chicken + dumplings for dinner, and hung around watching football.

I’m trying to start grocery shopping in the middle of the week, which I think will also in turn leave us more prepared for weekend eating. This was our first week, and so far it went well. Here’s what we planned to eat Thursday – Wednesday:

Man, what a two weeks. I was off work for about 10 days, including the weekends… and it was glorious to have a long break! I’ve been back at work two days, and after that long break, I feel motivated and inspired to be back at work. Isn’t that what vacations are for?!

How was your new years? Our was extremely low-key… we ordered Outback for dinner, watched the movie flight, and then a Happy Endings marathon until the ball dropped. Did you ever watch Happy Endings? It’s really the best/funniest show ever, and for some reason they took it off air! Such a travesty :( Did you decide to do resolutions? I didn’t and think I’m just going to enjoy life as is, and keep working on things I worked on in 2013, like less time on social media and being present.

Onto the recap of food, workouts, and favorites on the web for the week.

Food:

NEW years food

1. New Years Day meal at our house – our first holiday at the new place! I made roasted pork, sauerkraut, my grandma’s Czech bread dumplings, roasted broccoli, applesauce, and lots of desserts! <— grandma’s dumplings are the absolute best and my family loves them. I made two loaves and we probably could have had 5 loaves 2. Challah french toast + bacon 3. Champagne with raspberries at midnight on NYE.

Workouts:

Saturday: yoga – Sunday: nothing – Monday:  elliptical – Tuesday: strength training – Wednesday: nothing – Thursday: nothing – Friday: 5 minute warm-up on elliptical, 45-ish minutes of weights

I feel meh about the workouts this week. I’m looking forward to getting back on track with a normal week coming up. I find it harder to work out when the routine breaks (e.g. new  years in the middle of the week), but trying to keep up with it because it gives me energy and makes me feel better overall.  Good thing there is always a new day tomorrow :)

Weekend: Wreaths Across America & Family

Hi, friends. How are you all? Hope your weekend was smashing! Our was jam-packed, and really great. Started writing this post Monday, and now just getting a chance to finish… Our weekend looked like this:

Saturday

Woke up at 6:30am because we were participating in Wreaths Across America at Arlington Cemetery with my parents, two sisters, and aunt. We arrived at about 8am, and had breakfast thanks to the hubby’s company, then waited for the event to start. Once 10am came along, they provide directions on how to place the wreaths, and give some guidance suggesting that you could  be the only person to visit a grave, so stop to pay respect as you lay the wreath. They also mention if you have a family member in a section not selected that year to have wreaths laid down, you can take a wreath and go put it in their section. we laid down two wreaths each, then went with my dad to his parents grave in another section to lay down a wreath.

It was a very special and humbling morning, and I suggest if you live in the Washington, DC area that you participate! We’re already looking forward to next year. Wreaths Across America places wreaths during the holiday season on deceased military’s graves all the way across the country, and end at Arlington Cemetery. After Wreaths Across America, Tim and I had some errands to do before heading out to my oldest sister’s holiday party. Thankfully my younger sister offered to DD for Tim and I (Thanks, Non!)!

Sisters | Tidbits for Today

We had a great time at her party, and enjoyed lots of yummy drinks! Then we left to take our youngest sister to a friends party, and headed home to my parents house to sleep.

Sunday

Woke up at 7 to hang out with my nephew while my mom and dad did some things they needed to do (my  parents were watching him during my sisters party and he spent the night with them). We played, watched some baby shows and he ate a fruit pouch and cheerios. Typical morning of a 1 year old, I guess!  Selfies with a 1 year old at 7 am…

Around 1pm, my dad’s whole family arrived and we had a big family holiday party! It was a lot of fun, and we got to catch up with our family which is always awesome!

After the family party, we headed to Tim’s sisters for our two nieces’ birthdays! Long, fun, busy weekend! Hope yours was great as well!

This work week is coming to an end, and for us, a busy family filled weekend is ahead. Saturday morning starts early with Wreaths for America with my family, then a holiday party at my sisters, followed by a sleepover at my parents with my nephew – and that’s only Saturday. Sunday is a Christmas party with my dad’s side of the family, then celebrating two of our niece’s birthdays at dinner. I’m looking forward to soaking up some family time! In other news, here’s a picture of our Christmas tree that I am oh-so in love with… can’t I keep it up all year?!

Productive Weekend + Meals

Hi! how was your weekend? Our was relaxing, rejuvenating, and productive. I’d been feeling a little under the weather both physically and mentally. The holiday business was creeping up, and my stress level was rising. This weekend helped me feel better physically & most importantly in my book, mentally.

Friday

We worked all day, then came home to make pizza. I made the pizza dough with the usual recipe I follow, and our toppings were mushrooms, bacon, pepperoni, and mozzarella! We recently got a pizza peel which helps in transferring the uncooked pizza to the hot stone in the oven. We’re really nailing the pizza process these days! After eating, we spent the rest of the night catching up on TV shows. **side note: we haven’t had a couch for the past 3 weeks, and it probably won’t be here until next week. It’s killing us slowly, and my rear end is sore from sitting on our hardwood floor!**

Saturday

Woke up early since husband wanted to go to an 8:30am spinning class, and I wanted to attend the 9:45am yoga class. Who are we that we now are waking up early on the weekends to workout?! I love it though… the 9:45 yoga class is a vinyasa flow which has a great instructor and I just love the vibe. Since we share a car, I dropped off Tim at the gym and did our grocery shopping (going to 2 stores & dropping off/putting away the groceries in 1 hour! <—goo me!), then met him back at the gym so he could go home to shower while I did yoga, then he picked me back up! That’s how we make 1 car work, lots of compromise and figuring out how to maximize the time we have.

Once home, Tim made breakfast (I’m beyond thankful that he does this, and without me even asking!) which was omelets with bacon, mushrooms, peppers & cheese. So delicious! Then we worked on our budget, which took about an hour. He then took so much time to make a bunch of formulas that will help me work the spreadsheet easier! He’s the best. We then went to Tysons Mall and did holiday shopping, and finished the evening with the Cheesecake Factory to use some gift cards we had! Once home, more laying around and relaxing.

I made panettone french toast for breakfast (recipe coming soon) & we sipped coffee. The rest of the day was spent lounging and doing a few house chores. Then watching Homeland <— jeeeeeez, that was intense! I always end up sitting straight up in bed by the end, and my husband laughs at me. That show is stressful… but good!

The [Long] Weekend Update

Hello to you! How was your weekend + Presidents Day? We had a great last few days, with a lot of productivity and relaxation! Let’s get into some Marvelous in my Monday hosted by Katie!

[thursday]

We had a very low key Valentines Day, but did give each other cards, and I got roses and homemade chocolate covered strawberries!

[friday]

I had really ambitious plans to get to the gym that night, but the weather was amazing and coworkers wanted to go to happy hour at 4pm… I couldn’t resist! :) Had two glasses of wine, then headed home to grab dinner. At about 9pm, met my love out in Clarendon (he had been at a work happy hour as well). We stayed out until around midnight, but went home to hit the hay!

After being up kind of late, we slept in and lounged around until it was time to head to my parents house to help out. They are in the process of getting their house ready to sell, so we were chipping in to get things done! Tulips I got my mom for V-Day, they were quite beautiful!

Later that day, hubs-to-be and I headed to Melting Pot for our Valentines Day celebration!

We did the four course valentines day special, and it was awesome!!

[the cheese course] We did the fiesta cheese which comes with veggies, bread, apples, and tortilla chips.

[the salad course] I got the California which was mixed greens, candied walnuts, gorgonzola cheese, and a vinaigrette dressing.

[the meat course] We got the cupid’s special which came with lobster tail (!!!!), filet mignon, angus steak, teriyaki steak, shrimp, and chicken… and unlimited vegetables!

[the dessert course] I would be lying if I said this wasn’t my favorite course… we got a ‘turtle’ chocolate dip which had chocolate (obvi), caramel, and nuts. Then to dip in it, we had strawberries, banana, rice krispies, pound cake, and cheese cake… it was heavenly!

Overall, dinner was amazing!! We were tucked back in a two-person booth and it was quite romantic ;)

[sunday + monday] sunday we spent working out, running errands and hanging with family! Monday I had coffee with my best friend, lunch with my love, and did a LOT of cleaning and rearranging! I’m loving our new set up in the apartment!

Time for bed, since it’s back to work tomorrow! Hope you had a great last few days! :)

The Weekend I Didn’t Want to End

Hello everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was marvelous, thus not wanting it to end!

[FRIDAY]

Friday night, as mentioned included naan pizza and Pitch Perfect. I thought the movie was okay, but not as funny as I expected.

[SATURDAY]

That morning I was up early, and lounged for a bit before getting ready for my friend’s Valentines Day brunch party. It was a celebration of friend love and she did a wonderful job celebrating!!

3. The delicious spread which included egg cups, croissants filled with brie and apple, fruit salad, crab cakes, monkey bread muffins, and much more!

After brunch, I headed to Nordstrom to meet my mom to look at mother of the bride dresses. She looked absolutely stunning, and I loved seeing her all dressed up. She is always taking care of everyone else, and I am thrilled for her to get to be pampered :)

We then headed to Loft where I picked up some cute t-shirts and this blazer (I’m obsessed).  Then home to get in a quick run

and eat dinner with the hubs-to-be. We enjoyed crock pot taco chili from SkinnyTaste and got ready for a night out in DC with friends. Got home at 3am and crashed, a fun night indeed :)

[SUNDAY]

Slept until 9, and then laid on the couch until 1pm (while meal planning for the week, and eating some banana walnut pancakes). Finally got my rear-end up and went to three grocery stores (!!). I tried shopping for two weeks, Ashley’s post inspired me to give it a go, and it seems like we didn’t spend more than normal. We’ll see what else I need next week to know if I spend more or less. I will say though that I need some staples (TP, plastic baggies) that we don’t regularly purchase. So maybe it did save money!

After grocery shopping, I did a bit of food prepping which included eating homemade salsa and these delicious chips!

It was truly a great weekend mixed with fun and rest, and lots of time with my love (the best part of all)!
